Preparing for Easter

“Lent, then, is a season of grace when we can rebuild our relationship with God and with others,

opening our hearts in the silence of prayer and emerging from the fortress of our self-sufficiency.”

– Pope Francis

Exploring the Benefits of Confession During Lent

Lent is an excellent opportunity to participate in the Sacrament of Confession. If you haven't gone in a while, don't worry – you're not alone. The priest will be there to provide guidance and support. To help you prepare, we've compiled a list of resources that you may find useful.

St. Albert the Great Catholic Community offers the Sacrament of Confession every Wednesday @ 5 pm and Saturdays @ 2:30 pm.

For Lent 2024, there will be a Diocesan Community Penance service on Tuesday, March 12 @ 6 pm here at St. Albert the Great.

Examining Your Conscience
“Three conditions are necessary for Penance: contrition, which is sorrow for sin, together with a purpose of amendment;
confession of sins without any omission; and satisfaction by means of good works.”
– St. Thomas Aquinas

Acts of Contrition

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things.  I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.  Our Saviour Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.
In His Name, my God, have mercy.
Amen.

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishments,
but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, Who art all-good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

Amen.
