Advent

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Upon those who lived in a land of gloom a light has shone.

– ISAIAH 9:1

Celebrating the Season of Advent: Preparing for the Birth of Christ

Advent marks a four-week period in the Church calendar dedicated to preparing for the arrival, or "advent," of Jesus of Nazareth, the long-awaited Messiah and King. Throughout this season, Catholics engage in reflections centered on hope, peace, love, and joy with various practices and observances. Nonetheless, all share an emphasis on the hope-filled arrival of Jesus. This period also fulfills the prophecy of the Prophet Isaiah, and we intentionally prepare ourselves to experience the joy of the Messiah's birth and eagerly anticipate His second coming. Whether you seek to maximize your Advent experience or have been away from the Church for some time, we warmly welcome you.

In the tapestry of Catholic customs, a wreath of ethereal beauty bears witness to the Advent season. Four candles, like beacons of hope, are nestled within, representing the coming of the divine light amidst the shadows of the world. As each Sunday dawns, a new candle is lit, illuminating the paths of the faithful. And as the luminance grows, the promise of Christmas draws ever nearer, heralding the triumph of light over darkness.
